Delhi - Jaipur - Abhaneri - Agra - Delhi
Saving the Taj Mahal for the final chapter is the quiet secret of this Golden Triangle honeymoon tour with romantic Taj Mahal experience. Instead of the usual order, the route runs Delhi, then Jaipur, then Agra, so your week builds towards a sunrise inside the most famous monument ever raised for love, followed by a riverside sunset on the opposite bank. Along the way, newlyweds get a private hot air balloon flight over the Aravalli hills near Amber (seasonal, weather permitting), a couple's photo walk through the Pink City, a candlelit dinner on a palace terrace and a spa afternoon chosen for two. Every transfer is by private car and driver, so there are no shared coaches and no strangers in your photographs.
Romance, for most couples we host, comes from small things handled well. Rose petals on the bed are arranged in advance, the guide steps back when you want a moment alone at the Taj, and lunch stops are picked for quiet corners rather than tour-group buffets. Our Jaipur team has looked after honeymooners from the USA, the UK, Australia and across Europe for many years, and we know which palace rooms have the best views, which hours the Hawa Mahal glows pink and which Agra rooftop catches the dome at dusk. Stays are in elegant four- and five-star heritage-style hotels, with one honeymoon cake and one private dinner set up included. You simply turn up, hand in hand, and let the week unfold.

Stepping out of the arrivals hall at Delhi airport, you will find our representative waiting with a garland of fresh marigolds for each of you and a sign bearing your names. Your private car, stocked with water and wet wipes, takes you to your hotel in central Delhi, about 45 minutes away depending on traffic. Check-in has been arranged in advance, so after a long flight you can head straight to your room, take a shower and sleep for a few hours. Your chauffeur, who stays with you for the whole week, will confirm his number and the next day's start time before he leaves.
Late afternoon, once rested, ask him to drop you at Lodhi Garden, a 90-acre park where fifteenth-century tombs of the Sayyid and Lodi rulers stand among lawns, bamboo groves and palm-lined paths. Local couples come here to walk at golden hour, and you will see why. Next door, Sunder Nursery has restored Mughal pavilions, lotus ponds and a small café. For dinner, the restaurants of Lodhi Colony and Khan Market are close by, and Indian Accent or a quieter café with a garden courtyard both make a good first night together. Your driver waits nearby and brings you back to the hotel when you are ready. Overnight stay in Delhi.
After an unhurried breakfast, take a short morning visit to Humayun's Tomb, where symmetrical gardens and red sandstone arches are lovely for photographs before the day heats up. Then begin the drive to Jaipur along the national highway, broken by a coffee stop at a clean highway restaurant around Behror. The road crosses into Rajasthan, and you will notice the landscape change: mustard fields in winter, camels pulling carts, and men in bright turbans waiting at village crossroads. Your chauffeur knows where to stop if you want photographs, and the air-conditioned car means you arrive fresh. The drive also gives you time to look through wedding photos together and sleep off the last of the jet lag.
Check-in at your Jaipur hotel, chosen for its palace-style architecture and quiet garden courtyard, comes with a honeymoon touch: flower decoration on the bed, a cake and a handwritten welcome note. Evening is free for the two of you. Many couples enjoy a sunset walk in the hotel gardens followed by a relaxed dinner of laal maas, the fiery Rajasthani mutton curry, or the milder gatte ki sabzi made with gram-flour dumplings. If you have energy left, the floodlit walls of the old city are beautiful after dark. Go to bed early tonight, because tomorrow's balloon flight starts before sunrise. Overnight stay in Jaipur.
Your driver collects you in the dark for the short drive to the balloon launch site near Amber. As the burners roar, the basket lifts gently over villages, mustard fields and the long ridge walls of the Aravalli hills, with the honey-coloured ramparts of Amber Fort catching the first sun. Flights run roughly from October to March and depend on wind conditions on the day, and if the weather stops the flight, we arrange a refund or an alternative sunrise outing. Landing is followed by a celebration with a certificate and chai with the crew, before you return to the hotel for a late breakfast.
Late morning your private guide takes you up to Amber Fort, where the Sheesh Mahal's mirrored ceilings and the carved marble panels of the Jai Mandir glitter in the light. Just below the fort, Panna Meena ka Kund is a seventeenth-century stepwell whose criss-crossing stairs create one of the most photographed backdrops in Rajasthan, and your guide doubles as photographer for a few portraits of the two of you here. In the afternoon, rest at the hotel or book a couple's massage at its spa. Finish the day at Nahargarh Fort, where the café on the ramparts serves sunset drinks over the whole Pink City. Overnight stay in Jaipur.
Start early at Hawa Mahal, the five-storey palace of latticed windows, when the morning sun turns its sandstone face deep pink. Across the road, the rooftop cafés let you photograph it straight on over a cup of masala chai. Your guide then walks you into the City Palace, through the courtyard of the four seasonal gates, where the peacock door is a favourite for honeymoon pictures, and on to the Mubarak Mahal costume gallery. Jantar Mantar, the eighteenth-century observatory next door, holds giant stone instruments built to track the stars, an unexpected and memorable stop for most couples. Your guide shows you how to read the time on the great sundial and find your own zodiac sign.
Afternoon is set aside for the bazaars of the walled city. In Johari Bazaar you can have rings or a pendant made to mark your marriage, while Bapu Bazaar is good for embroidered mojari slippers and block-printed quilts to take home. Your guide knows fair-priced workshops and will help you bargain politely. For your last night in Jaipur, the hotel arranges a private candlelit dinner for two by the pool or on the terrace, with a Rajasthani folk singer or a quiet corner, as you prefer. Ask for the dal baati churma and a glass of saffron lassi to finish. Overnight stay in Jaipur.
Leave Jaipur after breakfast and drive east for about 95 km to the village of Abhaneri, home to Chand Baori, one of the deepest and oldest stepwells in India. Built more than a thousand years ago, it descends 13 levels with about 3,500 narrow steps arranged in perfect geometric triangles. Beside it, the ruined Harshat Mata temple has fine carvings of dancers and musicians. The village is calm, the photographs are extraordinary, and it breaks the journey nicely. Continue to Agra on the highway, with lunch at a reliable roadside restaurant along the way, and arrive with the whole evening still ahead of you.
You reach Agra by late afternoon and check into a hotel close to the Taj Mahal, where we request a room with a view of the dome. Your guide then takes you across the Yamuna to Mehtab Bagh, the moonlight garden built by Emperor Babur and lined up exactly with the Taj on the opposite bank. As the sun sets, the white marble turns gold, then rose, then soft blue, reflected in the river, and the garden is far quieter than the main complex. It is one of the most romantic hours of the whole tour. Head back for dinner at the hotel and an early night before sunrise. Overnight stay in Agra.
Rise before dawn and walk, or take a short battery-cart ride, to the eastern gate with your guide. The Taj Mahal is closed every Friday, so this visit is set on a different day of the week when your dates are confirmed. Pass through the red sandstone Great Gate and the tomb appears, framed within the arch, almost floating above the river mist. Your guide tells the story of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, then gives you time alone. Stop at the marble Diana bench for the classic portrait, and look closely at the inlaid flowers inside, made of carnelian, jade and lapis lazuli.
Return for breakfast and a rest, then in the afternoon visit Itimad-ud-Daulah, the riverside tomb built by Empress Nur Jahan for her parents. Its walls are covered in delicate stone inlay, a style later used on a grander scale at the Taj, and visitors are few. On the way back, stop at a family workshop to watch marble inlay craftsmen at work, where couples sometimes order a small inlaid box engraved with their initials and wedding date. Tonight, the climax of your honeymoon: a private candlelit dinner on a rooftop terrace facing the Taj Mahal, set with flowers and lanterns. Overnight stay in Agra.
After a late breakfast, enjoy a final look at the dome from your room or terrace, then begin the drive back to Delhi along the Yamuna Expressway, a smooth road that takes about four hours. If your flight is in the evening, you can pause for lunch in Delhi or spend a couple of hours at Dilli Haat, an open-air crafts market where artisans from every Indian state sell shawls, jewellery and textiles at fixed stalls. Your chauffeur knows how to time the drive around Delhi traffic so you reach the airport with plenty of room to spare. Any last purchases, such as the inlaid box from Agra, can be packed safely in the car before you leave.
At Indira Gandhi International Airport, your driver helps unload your luggage at the departure gate and says goodbye. Our office in Jaipur remains on call by phone and WhatsApp until you are airborne. Many honeymoon couples tell us that the week's quiet moments, the dawn balloon over Amber, the stepwell at Abhaneri with nobody else around, the first sight of the Taj through the arch, are what they talk about most at home. If you want to add a few days on a beach in Goa or Kerala's backwaters before flying home, let us know and we will arrange the domestic flight and extension.
